The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act offers people who contracted certain cancers and other serious diseases from exposure to radiation from nuclear weapons tests with an apology and monetary compensation, according to the Department of Justice.
Uranium workers in New Mexico are eligible for compensation but only downwinders in Nevada get compensation, according to the D.O.J.
That’s what lobbyists are trying to change in Senate Bill 197.
