During the ongoing regular annual maintenance of the Krsko nuclear power plant, an inspection of fuel elements has found mechanical damage to fuel rods in three such elements, Slovenian news agency STA reported on Saturday.
The chair of the plant’s management board, Stane Rozman, was quoted as saying that the damage was greater than initially thought, but that there had been no leakage into the environment. He said that the 35-day maintenance process would be prolonged because of that problem.

The Krsko plant has 235 such rods making up 121 fuel elements. STA said that 56 such elements were to be replaced during this year’s maintenance.
