(抜粋) 震災当時から現場を指揮してきた増田尚宏(なおひろ)所長(53)は、報道陣に対し、「(大惨事を招いた)福島第一原発と同様の事態まで、紙一重だった」と震災直後の緊迫した状況を振り返った。 第二原発とメルトダウン(炉心溶融)に至った第一原発の距離はわずか約12キロ・メートル。襲来した津波は第一原発の13メートルに対して第二原 発は9メートルだったが、海岸近くにある原子炉を冷却するための海水ポンプの機能が奪われ、原子炉4基中3基が一時危険な状態に陥った。しかし、外部から の高圧送電線が1回線生き残り、中央制御室で原子炉の温度や水位などのデータが把握できた。必要な対策を見極め、事故4日後の3月15日までに全号機で冷 温停止にこぎ着け、放射性物質は外部に漏れなかった。 全文は冷却機能停止、大惨事と紙一重だった…福島第二
