Analyzing already sent images, TEPCO estimated the maximum radiation level at 650 sieverts per hour. But it is yet to be known whether the highest-ever radiation level determined for the No. 2 unit indicates that the deposits on the control rod rail and other locations contain melted nuclear fuel, the company said.

In preparation for an examination of the inside of the reactor using another robot called Scorpion, TEPCO deployed the high-pressure water cleaner early Thursday morning to remove the sediment and make a five-meter-long path.
