The head of the Nuclear Safety Commission and another member of the government panel accepted ¥7.1 million in donations from the atomic power industry before assuming their duties at the watchdog, the two said Monday.
Haruki Madarame, a former University of Tokyo professor who became head of the commission in April 2010, said he received ¥4 million over a four-year period through 2009 from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., a major manufacturer of nuclear power reactors.
