Japan Renewable Energy Foundation is initiated by Mr Masayoshi Son, one of the most wealthy men in Japan and CEO and chairman of Softbank, with the intention to turn Japan towards sustainability. Tomas Kåberger the General director of the Swedish Energy Agency has accepted to become the first chairman of the Foundation.

Japan Renewable Energy Foundation is initiated by Mr Masayoshi Son, one of the most wealthy men in Japan and CEO and chairman of Softbank, a telecom company that with success broke the telephone monopoly in Japan and now intends to more or less do the same with the regional power monopolies. He has also taken the initiative to create the Reneawable Energy Foundation with the mission to build knowledge and to support the Japanese change towards sustainability. Tomas Kåberger the General director of the Swedish Energy Agency has accepted to become the first chairman of the Foundation.
Billionaire Masayoshi Son made a fortune taking on Japan’s phone monopoly. Now he aims to shake up its power utilities after the worst nuclear crisis in 25 years. The 53-year-old chief executive officer of Softbank says he will build solar farms to generate electricity, with support from at least 33 of Japan’s 47 prefectures. Although the power business was partially liberalized in the late 1990s, few new companies entered the market, partly because of difficulties in competing against the entrenched utilities.
