BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI)- North St. Louis County residents are worried after seeing smoke rising from the Bridgeton Landfill Sunday morning. Central County Fire and Rescue says crews have responded to the scene at the landfill’s South Quarry. The smoke could be seen along Boenker Lane off St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton.
There are currently no evacuations in effect for the area.
A subsurface fire has been burning deep within the landfill for some time. Concern has grown about that fire over recent years, as residents have learned of radioactive waste buried at the adjacent West Lake Landfill.
