FirstEnergy Solutions, a unit of FirstEnergy Corp. FE, -0.93% said Wednesday it has informed the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its decision to permanently deactivate its three nuclear power plants over the next three years. The company said the decision, which will deactivate two plants in Ohio and one in Pennsylvania, is based on “severe economic challenges.”
