Kyushu Electric Power Co. has frozen procedures to build a third reactor at its nuclear power plant in Kagoshima Prefecture in light of the country’s quake-triggered nuclear disaster, a company official said Tuesday.
The freeze could delay Kyushu Electric’s plan to start building one of the country’s largest reactors, with an output capacity of 1.59 million kw, in 2014 and start generating power in 2019 at the Sendai plant in the city of Satsumasendai.
