Taipei, Dec. 26 (CNA) One of the two reactors at Taiwan’s second nuclear power plant broke down Saturday afternoon, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) reported that day.
Taipower is investigating the cause of the breakdown, according to Lin Te-fu (林德福), a spokesman for the state-owned power company.
Following the latest breakdown, only two of the six nuclear reactors at the country’s three nuclear power plants are still in operation, a first in Taiwan’s power generation history, Lin said.
Prior to this, the No. 2 reactor at the third nuclear power plant had been shut down due to problems with its bolts; the No. 1 reactor at the first nuclear power plant was put out of service due to a component failure; and the No. 2 reactor at the first nuclear power plant has been shut down for routine maintenance, he said.
