Following the latest breakdown, only two of the six nuclear reactors at the country’s three nuclear power plants are still in operation, a first in Taiwan’s power generation history, Lin said.Prior to this, the No. 2 reactor at the third nuclear power plant had been shut down due to problems with its bolts; the No. 1 reactor at the first nuclear power plant was put out of service due to a component failure; and the No. 2 reactor at the first nuclear power plant has been shut down for routine maintenance, he said.
