A Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) inspection team has told Japan Atomic Power Co. (JAPC), operator of the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant in Fukui Prefecture, it will not accept the power company’s rebuttal of an inspection team report stating there is a high possibility an active fault lies directly beneath the plant’s No. 2 reactor.
In explaining its decision, the NRA inspection team said the basis for the power company’s rebuttal was unclear.
Officials from the NRA Secretariat met with JAPC members on April 19 and presented a draft of material to be submitted at an evaluation meeting on April 24. The investigation team will hear JAPC’s claims again on April 24, but it is unlikely the team will alter its position that an active earthquake fault runs under the reactor.
