The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology said Tuesday that cleanup work in the no-go zone around the Fukushima Daiichi plant will cost up to 2 trillion yen, while 3.1 trillion yen will be needed in outlying areas.
The decontamination effort is behind schedule and levels of radiation remain high in some areas.
