Moscow skeptical of Obama’s proposal for nuclear weapon cutting via The Voice of Russia

Russia will not allow violating the balance in the strategic deterrent system and lowering the efficiency of its nuclear force, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a conference on state defence order.

On Wednesday, speaking in Berlin, US President Barack Obama said that he would suggest cutting nuclear arsenals of the two countries by one third and also cutting stocks of Russian and American tactical nuclear arms in Europe.

The approach towards disarmament should be complex, insists Moscow. As the US continues to deploy elements of the missile defence system in Europe, and at the same time, Russia cuts its arsenals, this will weaken Russia’s security level. This is inadmissible, emphasized Vladimir Putin.

Russia’s political leadership cannot take Barack Obama’s proposal seriously, until Moscow does not receive judicial guarantees from Washington that the US missile defence system is not directed against Russia.
