Join us this Thursday, April 14, at 5:00 pm CST for a talk by Mehdi Faraji! Mehdi Faraji is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at NYU. He has also earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Sociology from the University of Tehran. Dr. Faraji is a member of the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies’ Board of Directors and ASPS newsletter editor. He was previously a visiting scholar at the Department of Sociology at Harvard University and the Institute for Global Studies at Stony Brook University. Faraji’s current research is about citizenship and the making of an Islamic state in postrevolutionary Iran. His writings have appeared in numerous publications in English and Persian, including the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Middle East Critique, Middle East Research and Information Project, and Sociology of Islam. Among his works are “Protesting Clerical Welfarism in Iran’s Pious City,” “Iranian Cinema’s ‘Quiet Revolution,’ 1960–1978,” and “De-politicizing Westoxification: The Case of Bonyad Monthly.”

The title of his talk is “(Un)Making Revolutionary Children: The Case of Keyhan for Children.”

لطفا این پنجشنبه در «زوم» برای سخنرانی دکتر مهدی فرجی با ما همراه باشید! مهدی فرجی دانشجوی دکتری دپارتمان مطالعات اسلامی و خاورمیانه دانشگاه نیویورک، دانش آموخته دکتری جامعه شناسی فرهنگی دانشگاه تهران، عضو هیئت مدیره و ویراستار خبرنامه انجمن مطالعات جوامع فارسی زبان است. تحقیق او به ارتباط شهروندی و ساختن دولت اسلامی در ایران پساانقلابی می پردازد. کتاب های نوربرت الیاس و تحلیل تمدنی و زندگی روزمره در امریکا و مقالات «بازنمایی زندگی روزمره در خیابان» و «فراروایت تمدن یا فرایند گسترش تمدن؟ خوانشی از پروبلماتیک فرهنگ-تمدن» از جمله آثار وی به فارسی است. مقالات «اعتراضات به سیاست های رفاهی در قم»، «انقلاب آرام سینمای ایران، ۱۹۶۰-۱۹۷۸»، و «ماهنامه بنیاد و سیاست زدایی از غرب زدگی»، از جمله آثاری است که از وی در سال های اخیر به انگلیسی منتشر شده است.ا
