She received her M.A. from the University of Chicago and BA from Davidson College, both in religious studies. Her research interests are at the intersection of Classical Arabic and Persian literature, Quranic studies, and Islamic intellectual history.Her talk is titled “Two Months in Tajikistan.”

We are happy to have Dr. Mahmoodreza Esfandiar, an associate professor of Comparative Religions and Mysticism at the Islamic Azad University in Iran. His research interests center on studies in religion and mysticism, Jalal al-Din Rumi, manuscript studies, and East Asian studies.
His talk this week is titled “Descriptions and Images of Love in Mawlavi’s Work.”

این پنج شنبه در “زوم” میزبان دکتر محمود رضا اسفندیار با عنوان سخنرانی “اوصاف و کارکردهای عشق از نظر مولوی” خواهیم بود.دکتر اسفندیار دانشیار رشته ادیان و عرفان تطبیقی در دانشگاه ازاد اسلامی است و زمینه تحقیقاتی ایشان ممترکز بر مطالعات دینی و عرفانی، مولوی پژوهی و مطالعات جهان مالایی است. ا

Please join us this Thursday, October 15, at 5:00 pm, for a lecture by Dr. Abe Soheili. Dr. Soheili holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois, and he has worked in both the United States and overseas in foreign language education. In the United States, he worked with the Foreign Service Institute in Washington DC (which was the first entity in the US where Persian was taught in the US) as well as the University of Maryland; and overseas, he worked in ESL teaching in both Iran and Kuwait. In addition, he has written extensively on Persian language education and its frameworks.
His talk is titled “Historical developments in Persian grammar and teaching Persian as a foreign language.”
