Marina Abramović Performance, Live at MoMA.org

MoMA is currently hosting a retrospective of work by performance artist Marina Abramović. The retrospective traces her career over the past four decades with approximately fifty pieces including photographs, video, and sound, as well as live re-performances of Abramović’s works by other people. The show also includes a new, original work performed by Abramović in the museum, marking the longest duration of time that she has performed a single solo piece. History of the Book Photostream on Flickr

The Chair of the History of the Book at the University of Amsterdam has created a Flickr photostream, including typographical material with a focus on the Netherlands from 1470-1800. The collection is a work in progress, created in collaboration with Special Collections, Amsterdam, and also with the Royal Library, The Hague and the Archive at Alkmaar. Over the coming year, project collaborators hope to extend the collection to more than 20,000 photographs of initials, ornaments and type. Descriptions to facilitate searching will also be enhanced through the use of the Iconclass database.

JSAH Online to Include Video, Virtual Modeling and More

The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) has developed a new platform for its online journal. The online version of the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historials (JSAH) will support video, dynamic images, virtual modeling, and digital mapping. JSAH Online will only be available to SAH members during 2010, with independent subscriptions beginning in 2011. A sample article showing some of the journal’s capabilities is currently online. National Archives Joins Flickr Commons

The National Archives and Records Administration is now a member of Flickr Commons, a website for cultural institutions to share their photograph collections with the public. The National Archives joins the New York Public Library, the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress and many other archives, libraries and museums in sharing their collections with Flickr. To mark the opening of its photostream in the Commons on February 4, 2010, the National Archives has posted a new photo set containing more than two hundred photographs of the American West by renowned American photographer Ansel Adams.

Timelines: Sources from History, available on the British Library’s website, allows you to explore British Library collection items chronologically. It includes items from the medieval period to the present, and a diverse array of items from everyday life (handbills, posters, diaries) and from political events (charters, speeches, campaign leaflets).

New Podcast Series from TateShots: Sound & Vision

TateShots is a podcast from the Tate Modern which presents a selection of short videos each month about modern and contemporary art. The next TateShots series, called Sound & Vision, will feature musicians who cross boundaries into visual art: Talking Heads front-man David Byrne; The Fall’s Mark E. Smith; Cosey Fanni Tutti of Throbbing Gristle; anti-folk singer and cartoonist Jeffrey Lewis; performance poet Lydia Lunch and the prolific Billy Childish – who will be shown interviewing himself. Credo Reference Adds National Gallery Images

Credo Reference, the award winning online reference library, now includes National Gallery London images in the Credo General Reference Collection. Credo Reference is available through the University of Chicago library by clicking here.

Credo has licensed high resolution images of the paintings in the National Gallery. Students and faculty can now easily find quality images from this museum to aid their research. This page includes a browsable list of the National Gallery images available through Credo.

Independent Lens: Between the Folds

A new film airing on PBS’ Independent Lens called Between the Folds chronicles the lives of ten modern paper folders. As the PBS website describes: “Through origami, these offbeat and provocative minds are reshaping ideas of creativity and revealing the relationship between art and science.” On this site, you can also test your origami knowledge by matching folding patterns with finished products, or even printing out patterns to try yourself.
