We are pleased to announce the 26th Mid-Continental Phonetics and Phonology Conference (MidPhon 26), which will be held, in person, at the University of Chicago, from Friday Sept. 17th through Saturday September 18th, 2021. The abstract deadline is August 14th, 2021.
As with previous MidPhon meetings, this is intended to be an informal gathering of researchers working in all areas of phonology and phonetics broadly defined. Faculty, students, and researchers are welcome to present.
We invite submission of abstracts for 20-minute talks and posters on all topics in theoretical, descriptive, computational and experimental phonology and phonetics. Students are especially encouraged to submit abstracts, but should consult with their relevant professors before doing so.
SPECIAL ATTENTION TO HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: While the current university guidelines (https://goforward.uchicago.edu/health-requirements) do not require vaccinated people to wear face coverings when indoors, the face covering requirement is still in place for unvaccinated individuals. Since we are not allowed to inquire about the vaccination status of visitors to campus, in order to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19, all participants at the conference will be required to wear face coverings when indoors, except during the participant’s own presentation on the podium. All participants at the conference will be asked to strictly adhere to this requirement. We reserve the right to ask an attendee to leave the conference venue if the individual does not comply with the face covering requirement.
We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. Should the university or the city of Chicago change the health guidelines and prevent us from hosting the conference in person, we will pivot to having the conference online.
