The Jazz X-tet performed a “Tribute to Fred Anderson” at the 32nd Annual Chicago Jazz Festival in Grant Park on Sunday, September 5. With special guest poet Khari B. (left), the ensemble celebrated the life of the legendary Chicago-based jazz tenor saxophonist.
Regarding the program, Khari B. says: I performed one of the previous pieces on Greg Ward’s composition of Fred Anderson’s “Bernice.” My piece was entitled, “About Feeling Good” that looks at artists’ intentions and/or purpose behind their work and the historical relevance of those creations from people like Fred Anderson.
The Jazz X-tet performed amongst jazz great such as Ramsey Lewis, Nicole Mitchell, Chuchito Valdez, Brad Mehldau, and others.
Fred Anderson passed away on June 24, 2010.
