Michael Chikuzen Gould is one of a very few non-Japanese Grand Masters of shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute. This presentation emphasizes the historical roots of shakuhachi in Zen culture and how it was used by monks in their daily lives. A demonstration of shakuhachi will be included, and students will also have an opportunity to play shakuhachi.
