Today’s article in the Chicago Maroon — A sad scene by first-year Emily Wang about the Arts on and within the University campus as well as student engagement within the larger Arts community — picked at the collective scab of Arts administrators, many of whom are performing artists and empathetic to the author’s frustrations and wishes.

Emily’s article, its ambivalence reflecting our own struggles, breathed new energy into ongoing conversations about, and work toward, making the Arts more visible and accessible. Additionally, the article revealed that our students crave a more vibrant Arts community; it encouraged students to take advantage of the provided Arts opportunities and demand more.
