Under the direction of Barbara Schubert, members of the New Music Ensemble will perform a lush program of 20th- and 21st-century works on Saturday, May 7 at 8 PM in Fulton Recital Hall. Audiences can expect to hear flutes, harps, voice, piano, and strings in a haunting and surprising variety of settings. Program includes:
~ Nocturne and Wake-Up Call (2009) by UChicago composition student Dylan Schneider performed by Dina Gusejnova, flute.
~ Vier Lieder, Op. 2 (1910) by Alban Berg performed by Mark Winston, baritone, and Nathan Harris, piano.
~ Purple Light (2009) by UChicago composition student Tomas I. Gueglio-Saccone performed by Stephen Todd, flute, and Nathan Harris, piano.
~ Rhapsodie (2008) by Andrea Clearfield performed by Stephen Todd, flute; Zidi Chen, violin; Andrew McManus, viola; Lucia Pattullo, violoncello; Julianna Peebles, harp; and Barbara Schubert, conductor.
~ Chanson dans la Nuit (1927) by Carlos Salzedo performed by Stephanie Selover and Atsuko Ruhnke, harps.
~ Eine Kleine Mitternachtmusik (A Little Midnight Music) by George Crumb
(Ruminations on ’Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk) (2001) performed by Amy Briggs, piano.
