Occupy WTC — Piano Program Strikes a Cord

Svetlana Belsky, Coordinator of Piano Studies, sends us the following announcement:

Attached is a photo of some of the performers, with our Occupy WTC sign!

It was a fabulous afternoon of immersion in the music of our favorite composer, JS Bach, specifically the Well-Tempered Clavier, which celebrated pianist and critic Hans von Bulow called “the pianist’s Old Testament”.  We were far less solemn than that (see “Occupy WTC!” signs).

30 pianists participated in the concert (including one fugue performed 4-hands).  The audio compilation of the most memorable performances includes those by University of Chicago students, professors, alumni, and musical guests (Steven Clancy, Chris Dunlap, Alice Sheu, Alice Chen, Brandon Rayhaun, Nora Sandler, David Wray, Susie Fan Fangying, and Chi Can To).

Best of WTC

University of Chicago pianists had a wonderful opportunity to perform at the PianoForte Chicago concert hall on one of its Fazioli pianos on November 5, 2011. Audience members were awed. Off-campus performance opportunities spread the word on the incredibly high quality of our pianists. Listen to a sample:
