Getting There and Parking

The University of Chicago is located in Hyde Park on the South Side of Chicago.

Driving: Campus is accessible from the 57th Street exit off of Lake Shore Drive, or coming from I-90/94 at the Garfield Boulevard exit.

Transit: The Garfield stops of the Red and Green line “L” trains, to the 55, x55 or 174 buses. Many buses run from downtown: 2, 4, 6, 173. The CTA [Chicago Transit Authority] website features a trip planner.

Parking is permitted along most streets around The University of Chicago and Hyde Park. It is suggested that you leave extra time to park and walk depending on availability of parking spaces. There are parking lots in a few places as well. University of Chicago parking information is available here.

Car Rental companies in the Chicago area include Enterprise and National Car Rental, both of which have contracts with The University of Chicago for discounted rates.

Taxi and Livery Service can be requested either by calling Flash Cab at 773-561-4444 and Checker Cab at 312-243-2537, or by ordering livery service through one of The University’s affiliated vendors available here.
