Bess Williamson • Accessible America • Jan. 15

Presented in partnership with UChicago’s Disability Studies Workshop, the Scherer Center hosted SAIC Asoociate Professor Bess Williamson for our first public lecture of 2019.

Professor Williamson discussed her book Accessible America: A History of Disability and Design (NYU Press, 2019), which highlights how objects of design––such as architecture, public transportation, and everyday housewares––have played a key role in developing American understanding of the rights of disabled people.

Professor Williamson’s talk was accompanied by sign interpretation for deaf and hearing impaired audience members.
