David Bevington Appointed University’s Secretary of Faculty Emeriti

David Bevington, the Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Humanities and Theater and Performance Studies, has been appointed as the University’s Secretary of Faculty Emeriti.  Bevington will be responsible for helping retired faculty maintain connections to the University community.

As an enthusiastic member of the campus community, Bevington has served on the boards of the Court Theater and the University Theater,  and played viola with the University Chamber Orchestra, among many other activities. In announcing the appointment, Provost Thomas Rosenbaum described Bevington as “an extraordinary Shakespearean and Elizabethan scholar, beloved teacher, and defining University of Chicago figure.”
