Halfway through the Messiaen Music Festival, the reviews are coming in. The festival, under the direction of Shauna Quill, executive director of the University of Chicago Presents, is a hit. Says the Chicago Sun-Times: “With the first four days down, there’s no doubt that Quill’s project is a triumph.”
That sentiment has been echoed in the Chicago Tribune:
Olivier Messiaen would have been overjoyed by the opening weekend of the University of Chicago’s Messiaen Festival.
Messiaen’s music shares the spotlight with works by five of his students, including University of Chicago Professor Marta Ptaszynska. The Sun-Times called Prof. Ptaszynska’s piece “Trois visions de l’arc-en-ciel” (“Three Visions on a Rainbow”) “gripping and moving.”
The Messiaen Music Festival continues through October 11. A list of events can be found on the University of Chicago Presents website.
