Thank you for visiting the official website of the Middle Eastern Studies Students’ Association at the University of Chicago. As a student-run organization, MESSA exists in conjunction with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies to support student involvement with and knowledge of the Middle East through a variety of means.
Over the course of the academic year, MESSA sponsors a series of events, workshops, conferences, and cultural activities relevant to the Middle East that seek to engage our membership and the broader campus community in constructive dialogue about the region and encourage further awareness of the dynamic characteristics of its past and present. MESSA also supports the bi-annual publication of Lights, an academic journal devoted to graduate student scholarship on the Middle East. Additionally, MESSA serves as a resource for students interested in academic and professional development related to future careers relevant to the Middle East.
Please feel free to explore the resources offered on this website, as well as the external links provided to other resources of interest, and to contact the board with any questions or suggestions you may have.
