Indiscriminacy in Cuevas Mixtec

Carlos Cisneros and Miguel Villegas

Cuevas Mixtec is an Otomanguean language of the Mixtecan dialect spectrum, spoken in Oaxaca, Mexico, and within various migrant communities along the western coasts of Mexico and the USA.  This project investigates the properties of two kinds of indefinite in the language, free choice items and indiscriminatives, and seeks to establish the first model of indiscriminative meaning crosslinguistically.  Additionally, we are working on a basic dictionary which may be among the first to include tone marking for an Otomanguean language.  Most fieldwork is conducted with speakers living in central California.
