Country Specialist Program, Amnesty International

Amnesty International works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. AIUSA investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. AIUSA have received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving efforts. AIUSA dare to envision a world in which every person – regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity – enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And we ask you to join us – to take action and stop human rights abuses wherever they occur.

AIUSA is seeking a Country Specialist who will monitor the human rights situation, campaign for a positive change, and help coordinate action strategies to stop and prevent human rights abuses in their assigned countries.  Ideal candidates should have a combination of country/regional expertise, academic background in the region, relevant language abilities, and human rights activist experience.  You must be willing to donate at least 10 hours per week and make a minimum two year commitment to the program. This is a U.S. based position which is unpaid, but AI-related expenses will be compensated.

Currently, AIUSA are looking for volunteers with expertise on Belarus and Western SectorKosovo, Montenegro, Serbia or would be interested in joining the Balkans Action Network or Eurasia Action Network who can help us raise concerns about violations of the rights to freedom of religion, expression, association, and assembly. While we have a particular need to find experts for these countries, feel free to contact us if your expertise lies in some other area.  If you are interested in joining the Country Specialist Program please send a cover letter and resume to the address listed below.  If you would like more information, please contact the Country Specialist Program at the phone number or e-mail listed below
