Russian Literary Magazine for Kids and Parents
INTERNSHIPS FOR RUSSIAN-SPEAKING STUDENTS
Malenkaya Kompaniya is a literary magazine for Russian-speaking children in America and their families. The magazine is published by a non-profit corporation CEKPET, Ltd. It is printed in NYC and mailed to subscribers all over the country. The magazine encourages young kids and teens to read, both in Russian and English, and helps families that are interested in keeping the heritage language. At our Russian Children’s Theater Studio we use theater as a means of keeping the heritage language.
Students who are looking to gain valuable work experience, improve their communication and writing skills in Russian, and have their works published are encouraged to apply for the internships that we currently offer. High school students may apply for volunteering in order to get community service credit.
- Education/ Theater Workshops – several interns assist staff with the creation of programs for our Theater Studio and help the staff during the classes and rehearsals. Interns in this area should have good oral and writing skills in Russian, excellent organizational skills, and desire to work with children of various ages and backgrounds. Workshops are on Saturdays in Sheepsheadsbay, Brooklyn.
- Website Improvement – intern assists staff with maintaining and improving website and blog. Intern in this area should have excellent knowledge of computer programming and experience in creating and maintaining websites and blogs. Ability to read and write in Russian is highly desirable. Telecommuting is OK.
- Magazine Illustrations – several interns will make color and/or black and white illustrations to the poems/stories/novels to be published in the magazine and assist staff in creating props and costumes for the theater. Artistic preparation and good reading skills in Russian are required. Knowledge of Russian children’s literature is desirable. Telecommuting is OK.
To apply for an internship, please send a letter stating the area(s) you are interested in (do not forget to indicate your level of Russian) to email@example.com. Some applicants may be required to provide links to the sites/blogs they have created or bring/send portfolio of their drawings.
It is a non-profit organization, all internships are non-paid. Each intern will get free copies of the magazine and will be given credit for his/her work both in the magazine and on our website.
Those college students who write themselves and/or do literary translations of works for children to/from Russian are encouraged to send us their works (it is the task of a translator to get the copyright permission of the author/copyright holder).
If you have any questions about these internships and/or about our magazine in general, please contact Alla Markova by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
