Upcoming performances by the U of C’s Russian folk choir:
Dear friends of Golosa, the University of Chicago Russian Folk Choir:
This is a reminder of our upcoming performances in Elgin, as well as an announcement of our last show of the academic year, our annual concert in Joseph Bond Chapel on the U of C campus.
This coming Sunday and Tuesday, May 23 and 25, the Elgin Choral Union will perform the complete Rachmaninoff Vespers in Old Church Slavonic. We will open each of these shows with a set of our own songs, and the ECU will join us on a folk song to close the concert. More information regarding times, locations, and tickets are available from Elgin’s website:
Then, in two weeks, on Wednesday, June 2, 8:00, we will sing our annual concert at Joseph Bond Chapel on the campus of the University of Chicago.
Our spring concert is a wish for peace in a turbulent part of the world. Two choirs will bring together the music of Russia and the republic of Georgia – in harmony for one night, at least.
We are excited to host the incredibly talented Vazhkatsuri, a men’s a cappella ensemble performing the traditional music of Georgia. Georgian songs are instantly recognizable by their non-Western scale, and the men of Vazhkatsuri do full justice to these unusual harmonies.
Of course, Golosa will perform as well, singing a few of our old favorites, as well as premieres of some new songs! Don’t miss our last concert of the 2009-2010 season.
