Nuclear waste facility near Carlsbad supported by U.S. House vote via Carlsbad Current Argus

A resolution proceeding through Congress could support a proposed nuclear waste repository in southeast New Mexico, and prioritize the temporary storage of nuclear waste, giving the U.S. Department of Energy the authority to contract for the design and operation of such a facility while a permanent option remains out of reach.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution Wednesday that would direct the DOE to develop a plan to store thousands of tons of spent nuclear fuel temporarily away from generator sites as a permanent repository is being developed.
