Western Pa. will be site of nuclear manufacturing center via Pittsburgh Business Times

A western Pennsylvania manufacturer is opening a new center that will help manufacturers with the building of the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Concurrent Technologies Corp. of Johnstown announced Friday that it had created the Center for Advanced Nuclear Manufacturing. The center will work on issues surrounding the manufacturing of small modular reactors and advanced reactors that will be built in the coming decade; they provide different challenges than the traditional light water reactor systems.

The center will be located at CTC’s Environmental Technologies Facility at 128 Industrial Park Road in Johnstown with a small group of CTC employees. There are plans to build the workforce there in the future, according to a company spokeswoman. A ribbon cutting and open house will be held Aug. 24, and Aug. 23 there will be a workshop for nuclear suppliers at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh.
