Frydenberg moves to allay concerns about proposed nuclear dump in NSW via abc news

The Federal Government says it will push ahead with talks on a proposed nuclear dump near Bathurst in central west New South Wales despite widespread community concern.

A property near Hill End has been shortlisted as one of six sites to potentially store the material, which has drawn opposition from many residents as well as the Bathurst and District Business Chamber.

The Resources Minister Josh Frydenberg said while there were “mixed views”, it was important a range of opinions in the region continued to be heard.

But Minister Frydenberg said all precautions would be taken to ensure the transportation was safe.

“I can tell you, the government’s not going to take any chances in this regard,” Mr Frydenberg said.

“We have our first priority, the protection of the community, we believe such a facility will be safe.

“It will be modelled on other successful facilities around the world, and it’s important in any debate to dispel some of the myths and false information that may be around about this site.”
