N-Energy Seen Covering 10 Pct of Power Sources: Motegi via Jiji Press

Tokyo, June 21 (Jiji Press)–Nuclear energy would be the source of about 10 pct of electricity generated in Japan under the country’s new standards for nuclear plant safety at first, industry minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday.
If the government receives applications for permission to restart 12 or 13 reactors from power companies and their restarts are approved, they would together cover 10 pct of the country’s total electricity output, Motegi told a news conference after a cabinet meeting.
“This would be the first stage,” he said, indicating a further increase in the future. Motegi also requested the Nuclear Regulation Authority to screen applications quickly.
