Council throws support toward USEC loan guarantee via Chillicothe Gazette

CHILLICOTHE — Chillicothe City Council members gave their support to USEC Inc.’s American Centrifuge project at their regular meeting Monday night.Council members passed a unanimous resolution asking for President Barack Obama and the U.S. Department of Energy to agree to provide a $2 billion loan guarantee to the company. The guarantee has been called essential by the company; it would allow construction to be completed on the next-generation centrifuge plant to enrich uranium for the nuclear energy process.

“The resolution states four reasons this is important, which include potential for job creation in an area of high unemployment; the long-term economic impact — including the housing and purchasing power to a four-county region of more than 200,000 people including Chillicothe and Ross County; it will provide a domestically owned source of fuel for U.S. reactors; and the project will provide economic development in Ohio and the Midwest,” said Development Chair Nancy Ames, R-2nd Ward.
