Hibakusha: Losing life and home to nuclear power plant radiation via Mainichi Daily News

As a result of the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant, 59-year-old Teruo Yoshida, who operated a livestock farm in Tomioka, Fukushima Prefecture, was forced to leave the farm. His cows, which were like family to him, were slaughtered. It was the second time that a nuclear power plant had taken something away from him.

Twelve years ago, Yoshida’s younger cousin, who had worked at a nuclear plant, died at the age of 47 from what was eventually determined to be a work-related death.
