BERLIN — Europe’s economic powerhouse, Germany, announced plans Monday to abandon nuclear energy over the next 11 years, outlining an ambitious strategy in the wake of Japan’s Fukushima disaster to replace atomic power with renewable energy sources.
Chancellor Angela Merkel said she hopes the transformation to more solar, wind and hydroelectric power serves as a roadmap for other countries.
“We believe that we can show those countries who decide to abandon nuclear power – or not to start using it – how it is possible to achieve growth, creating jobs and economic prosperity while shifting the energy supply toward renewable energies,”

As many years as I live in the USA, I never heard Americans distinguish between different ethnic groups immigrated from the former USSR or nowadays Russia: Uzbeks, Jews, Ukranians, Moldavians all are Russians in the American parlance.I am not going to discuss here whether its a sign of illiteracy or negligence or disdain: it may be all of the above or something else.But when and since we discuss here a specific topic related to Jews, the participants of such a discussion must have a clear understanding of whom we are talking about.The former Soviet citizens (a group term that includes all 140 ethnic groups of the former USSR) recognize at once who is who not only because of linguistic and pronunciation differences but also because of different cultures and mentalities.
We should respect Germany’decision although it will occur problems to solve.At this moment Germany does not estimate total transition costs.German people and companies have to pay price increase. And other countries in Europe will be also influenced by this policy. Now Germany is the exporter of electricity but Germany become the importer after abandoning nuclear energy and shifting to new energy.The balance of demand and supply will be breaking up.Other countries have to depend on nuclear energy and they also cover the increase of price in European area.Germany only abandon the use of nuclear energy in their country and we still have to depend on nuclear energy.
