Fukuyama apologizes to Iitate over evac order via The Japan Times

IITATE, Fukushima Pref. — Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tetsuro Fukuyama apologized Saturday to residents of Iitate, Fukushima Prefecture, after the government announced it is seeking to evacute the village, which is located more than 30 km from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.

“I apologize from the bottom of my heart for causing dismay, concern and anxieties” by the move, he told a meeting of about 100 representatives of the village. The action comes more than a month after the Fukushima No.1 plant’s reactors were wrecked in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
