Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. on March 15, 2011 announced a temporary halt of its construction of Kaminoseki Power Plant in Kaminoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture in response to growing public anxiety triggered by the Fukushima Dai’ichi Power Plant accidents. “We will keep an eye on the situation in Fukushima, but our top priority is to explain to the residents (near the planned Kaminoseki Power Plant) our construction plans,” explains the company representative about the company’s decision to temporarily suspend the construction.(2011/03/15-16:19)

    Thank you for posting this article! Sounds like by “explaining,” Chugoku Electric Power Co. is trying to “convince” the residents how safe and different Kaminoseki power plant would be from Fukushima, and is waiting for the “buzz” to go away?

    Yuki: That’s the impression I got, too. I’m sure the general public are leaning toward a more skeptical stance on nuclear energy, though. Not that I’m glad this had to happen, but we should all learn something from it.
