4/9 Professor Myles Burnyeat from Oxford University will lead the workshop in a seminar, “How Far is it Important to Know in What Order Plato and Aristotle Wrote their Many Works?”

4/30 Professor Verity Harte from Yale University will be talking about her paper, “Republic X and the role of the audience in art.” Professor Harte asks that we all have read the paper in advance, as she will not be going over it in detail. Harte Paper
5/7 Jay Elliot will give a paper, “Aristotle on Phronesis and the Moral Virtues.” The paper will not be distributed in advance, but Jay suggests that we look over Nicomachean Ethics VI in preparation for his presentation.
5/14 John Hannon will give a paper, “Aristotle: Toward a Scientific Explanation of Death.” Please note that this week we will be meeting early, from 4PM-5:15PM, in order not to conflict with the Ryerson Lecture which begins at 5:30 PM. We will also be meeting in a different location, in Cobb 106.
5/16 Professor Stephen Menn from McGill University will be giving a paper, “Why Aristotle Has No Theory of Lyric Poetry” from 10AM-12PM in Foster 305
5/21 Toby Chow will give a paper,”The unconscious hedonism of the many in the Protagoras”. Please note that this week we will be meeting in Classics 10, rather than Classics 26. Paper
5/28 Nick Houlihan will give a paper, “Empedocles’ Religious Thinking”
6/4 Erica Holberg will give a paper, “Qualified Pleasures and the Human Good.” Erica will not be distributing the paper in advance. The paper will be making reference to Books VII and X of the Nicomachean Ethics, for those who would like to do some preparation.
