What is LUNA?
The Department of Art History’s teaching resource of more than 165,000 digital images designed for use in conjunction with current classes.
What can I do with LUNA?
In LUNA you can search image collections, manipulate images, and create image-based presentations that are ideal for classroom and professional use. Zoom in and crop high-resolution images and quickly share your content as a hyperlink. Individual images can also be exported for use in other presentation software, such as PowerPoint and Keynote.

- known issue: The first time you log in to LUNA, you may get an error message. Click your back button and try again—you should be able to login without error. This bug also occurs the first time you login after you change your cnet password.
What kind of images are in LUNA?
In addition to locally created content available in the Art History Department Image Collection, the following licensed collections are available within LUNA. Click each collection learn more about it (to view images in these collections, please login to LUNA above):
- AMICA—108,000+ American museum images
- Archivision—16,000 images of world architecture
- Bridgeman—14,000+ images from all time periods and places, available in LUNA thanks to the generous support of The Women’s Board
- Korean History in Postcards—7,000+ postcard images of Korea created during the first half of the 20th century.
- LUNA Commons—More than thirty collections of images contributed by partner institutions from around the world
- The Renaissance Society Archive—Images documenting the Renaissance Society’s commitment to the art of the present moment, including many exhibition views
- Saskia—30,000+ core art history images including works from over one hundred museums
Who can use LUNA?
LUNA collections hosted on the University of Chicago site are available to University students and faculty.
