Transportation and Accommodations

TRANSPORTATION

The conference will take place at two different locations. For the first day of our conference (April 18), our venue will be room 122 at the Social Sciences Research Building (1126 East 59th Street). For the second day (April 19), we will move to the Franke Institute for the Humanities, located inside the Joseph Regenstein Library (1100 East 57th Street).

Both venues are located on the University of Chicago campus (for a map of our campus, please click here). The University of Chicago is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood, approximately seven miles south of downtown Chicago.  The following are some general tips for getting to and from campus:

Airport shuttles: If you are arriving in Chicago via O’Hare International Airport or Midway Airport, you may arrange to take the Omega Shuttle or the GO Airport Shuttle. Please note that reservations for the shuttle are required.

Bus: Various buses reach the University of Chicago from Midway Airport, downtown, and other points around the Chicago area.  Visit the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) website for routes, schedules, and fees.  Please note that Chicago buses require exact change, so plan your ride accordingly.

Train: From downtown Chicago you can take the Metra/Electric South Chicago Line train towards University Park.  Catch the train downtown at the Millenium Park Station, located underground at the southwest corner of Randolph Street and Michigan Avenue.  If you are staying at the Hyatt Place Chicago South or at the Chicago Lake Shore Hotel in Hyde Park, exit the train at 47th Street.  To walk to campus, exit the train at the Univ. of Chicago/59th Street Stop.  Fares can be purchased in the station, or on the train for an additional fee.

Car: The University of Chicago campus is easily reached via the 57th Street Exit off of S. Lake Shore Drive.  You may also access the university via I-90/94 at the 55th Street Exit.  It is easiest to use Google Maps to map a specific route to the University of Chicago.
