About Us
Positioned at the heart of a world-renowned academic institution, the Department of Music’s performance program encompasses a wide range of musical opportunities for talented musicians hailing from throughout the campus and community. Membership is open to all who successfully complete the audition process, including undergraduate and graduate students (regardless of field or major), faculty, staff, and community members. The performance program includes 15 ensembles and programs — two orchestras; a wind ensemble; three choirs; two jazz ensembles; early music ensemble; new music ensemble; world music groups; and piano, vocal, and chamber music programs — which collectively present over 100 performances each season and involve more than 650 musicians! Ensembles-in-residence, including multiple Grammy-award winning eighth blackbird and Pacifica Quartet, and numerous professional concerts offered by University of Chicago Presents further enhance the vibrant musical life on campus. Performance venues include Mandel Hall, Rockefeller Chapel, Fulton Recital Hall, International House, and the new Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts.
