The Unviersity of Chicago Magazine reports that Catherine Baumann, a senior lecturer in Germanic studies and director of the College’s German-language program, has been named the University marshal, beginning her three-year term July 1. In the honorary position, she will serve as master of ceremonies for convocations and other events. She succeeds Lorna P. Straus, SM’60, PhD’62, who was the University marshal since 2001.
