A single page of a musical manuscript stored in a library in Nantes, western France, has recently been attributed to Mozart. The work has been in the library’s collection since the nineteenth century but had been “entirely forgotten,” according to Ulrich Leisinger, head of research at the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Austria.
Philip Gossett, music historian and professor of music, has urged caution: “It is certainly not something that can just be scored up and played as Mozart’s.”
The manuscript is a singleĀ page with no signature.
