Gerald Rizzer, BA in Music 1962, is about to launch the 34th season of The Chicago Ensemble, a professional ensemble which has presented a subscription series of chamber music right under the music department’s nose, so to speak, for all the years of the group’s existence. The group performs at International House on Sunday afternoons, and the same program is also presented at Fourth Presbyterian Church, a block north of the Water Tower on N. Michicagn Ave, on Tuesday evenings. Rizzer is the founder, pianist and artistic director of the group which presents programs with different combinations of piano, strings, woodwinds and voice (the first such mixed ensemble in Chicago).
Rizzer teaches piano, theory and chamber music to students of all ages at Sherwood Community Music School of Columbia College Chicago and music appreciation classes at De Paul University. He is the composer of several musicals which have received performances at Theatre Building Chicago.
