Barz, Gregory (M.A. 1992)

Gregory Barz, Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology, Vanderbilt University conducted field research in Rwanda, Central Africa, in 2009 focusing on contemporary songs of unity and reconciliation within the greater context of music’s role in promoting and fostering the genocide of 1994. He spent the month of July in Lugano, Switzerland as a 2009 Franklin Fellow in Global Citizenship. He currently lives on the campus of Vanderbilt University as the Faculty Head of North House in The Commons, a first-year residential college. He will return to South Africa in 2010 as senior research fellow at the University of Bloemfontein.
