What is The Source

From July 08 to August 16 a 5-week summer game program called The Source will take place across the University of Chicago Campus as part of the Chicago Summer of Learning (CSOL). Teams made up of 10 high school youths will meet career professionals to solve the challenges and compete in the game using computers, video, photography and more.

The Source is an alternate reality game that has players experiencing the game in person and online. Along with meeting at real-life locations we will also give challenges to be completed on our custom online platform. During The Source players will participate in live-action scavenger hunts, social media adventures and a series of digital screen-based games.

Here you will learn more about the game, meet the team and other players. We ask that parents come to orientation to learn more, meet the team and sign consent forms. The Orientation will be an open house style and we have three dates for players and parents to choose from (you only need to make it to one of the dates).

If you are unable to make it to the Orientation, please email gamechangerchicago@gmail.com so we may email you the proper consent forms.

Mandatory attendance

Players are required to come to live locations 3 days out of the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays) July 08- August 16. There is also orientation on July 08. We do understand if other things come up, but absences need to be excused in advance with a reason why they cannot come. If a player is absent three times they may be asked to leave the program (with some exceptions, such medical reasons). If a player expects to miss more then 3 days, he or she should contact us at gamechangerchicago@gmail.com

Transportation

Much of the participation will occur on University of Chicago campus, and some will occur outside of the campus (such as The Art Institute). Each player will receive a five day cta pass each week that will have two pre-paid rides in order to get players from and back to home.

Food

Players will be provided a boxed lunch and one hour break on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at our live meet-ups.

Chaperons

Players will have a mentor to chaperon them Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. These mentors will also help guide them through the activities.

Player Shirts

Each player will receive one shirt to wear on our weekly Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday meet-ups. If you would like to purchase extra shirt(s), please visit:

*Note: Please do not edit the design, as the color of shirt and logo that we have now is the one we have familiarized the UCPD with.

Logging into the site

Players will be emailed usernames and passwords. They will also be handed out to players individually at Orientation. The site will not be active until July 08, so please wait to sign in until then. Please wait for further instruction.

Players can access the site using a computer or mobile device. Both require an internet connection. For those who do not have access from home, we have public computer labs available during the program. See below for locations and hours
